Loosely following the story of the graphic novels, up to four players can play as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pine or Stephen Stills, along with the unlockable character NegaScott and the downloadable characters Knives Chau and Wallace Wells, who must battle through seven levels in order to defeat Ramona’s seven evil exes. Characters have their own individual movesets, which can be expanded upon by gaining enough experience, and are also able to use weapons. Each player has Heart Points and Guts Points, the latter of which can revive players if they are knocked out, or be used to perform special moves such as summoning Knives or the unlockable assist character Mr. Chau. Defeating enemies earns coins which can be spent in shops to purchase items that can replenish health or boost stats. Certain items can be taken “to go” to be automatically used when the player runs out of health. Players can also enter Subspace areas which act as bonus areas where extra coins can be earned. During co-operative play, players can revive fallen comrades at the cost of some money, give each other health or money, and simultaneously taunt for a combined attack. Various cheat codes unlock extra features, such as a Sound Test, a Boss Rush and a Survival Horror mode.
Alas, on December 30th, 2014, the game was delisted from both PSN and XBLA, the leading explanation being due to the licenses expiring (though nothing concrete on that front has emerged), and became a notorious example of a game lost to history in game preservation circles. Fans have rallied to try and get the game back, a sentiment Bryan Lee O’Malley shared; on August 10th, 2016, he expressed a strong desire on Twitter to see the game re-released, saying “Give me time.”

Discover your perfect combination of weapons, abilities, and skill trees to survive the island’s wild environment. Throughout the vast world, you’ll collect an arsenal of 15 distinct weapons. Finding the best one for your playstyle is part of the adventure. Early on you’ll select a character archetype. This will determine your starting weapons, better ease you into the dynamic, real-time combat, and include initial Trade Skill boosts. Regardless of your choice, you can freely switch between any of the following weapons after you find them:
Adventurers who own New World (base game) and the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion on PC prior to the release of New World: Aeternum will receive a free update that includes all of the new content on October 15. Those that own the base game, but not the expansion will need to purchase the Rise of the Angry Earth to access some of the New World: Aeternum features at launch.
