Usyk cemented his case as a first-ballot Hall of Famer with his split decision win over Fury in May. Honestly, Usyk deserved better than the split decision, having mostly dominated the fight down the stretch. While the common thinking entering that fight was that Usyk would have to be a sharp boxer to avoid the size and physicality of Fury, it was Usyk who was the dominant physical force in the fight, including when he was able to drop Fury in the eighth round. With the win, Usyk became the first fighter to unify every world title in boxing’s four-belt era. He accomplished the feat of becoming undisputed champion after previously going undisputed at cruiserweight.

“I believe I won that fight,” Fury said. “I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them, and I believe it was one of those what-can-you-do, one of them … decisions in boxing. We both put on a good fight, best we can do.

David Benavidez: “I’ve been in big fights since I was 20-years-old, so to be out there representing the Mexican and Mexican-American people on this stage, it’s everything I’ve wanted out of this sport. I have to show people that I’m the real ‘Mexican Monster’…the way I fight, I always try to take my opponents out. It doesn’t mean you always get it, but we’re definitely going to be pushing for it. David Morrell has made it personal for me. I’m glad he’s confident in himself. It’s all speculation until we get in there. On February 1, I’ll show why I’m at this level…right now I’m 100% focused on February 1. After that we can talk about getting all of those light heavyweight belts.”
