5) Can the Yankees build off this?Volpe’s grand slam in Game 4 seemed to wake up not just Yankee Stadium, but really the whole team. They went from dejected to energized with one swing of the bat, and that energy seemed to build throughout the game. It culminated in a five-run eighth inning that not only allowed the Yankees to not send out Luke Weaver in the top of the ninth for a third inning of work, but it may have been the final push to get Judge, and honestly this whole offense, going.
• Let’s take it a step further. Buehler also pitched Game 3 of the World Series in 2020, allowing one run on three hits over six innings. He’s the only pitcher in World Series history with three outings of at least five innings and four or fewer baserunners allowed – and they’re the first three World Series outings of his career.
Rain world game
This game has gotten a lot of updates in the period since I first got it in for coverage, and out of all the games on the SFG queue, it might just be the one that’s the most actively supported by the developers and a passionate fanbase, and I saw the appeal a lot more this time around. There’s even a pretty big expansion DLC called Downpour available to purchase that offers more difficulties, areas and toggles to play with, and while I didn’t touch that in the slightest, it just goes to show how much more fleshed out the Slugcat adventures have gotten since 2018. I did try out the local multiplayer stuff however, and found it to be a fun use of the game mechanics, especially with how chaotic Sandbox mode can be, which in turn leads to an extra bit of motivation for seeking out parts of the map to unlock more content for it.
Reaching that level of proficiency takes time, but Rain World’s approach to progression makes that time for you. One of the many axes of difficulty in Rain World is its “karma” mechanic, which prevents players from moving past a region until they have survived a certain number of cycles in a row. This can be frustrating because it penalizes the already inconvenient and demoralizing process of in-game death. However, there is also a kind of liberation in this system; once you’ve hit the lowest karma possible, there’s nothing more to lose by dying. To me, it felt like the game was telling me that it was okay to fail, that I was not expected to be able to cope with all of the challenges facing me yet. In the many cycles that I found myself with minimum karma, I was free to play adventurously, to explore both the world and the controls of the slugcat. As I did so, I began to worry less about the vague idea of progress and more about just existing in Rain World as it was, indulging in the joy of discovery.
Far out in .mw-parser-output .regionicon Shoreline, the player eventually finds a vast mechanical complex in shambles, and the guide directs the Slugcat inside of it, indicating that the being within may be able to assist them. Within the complex, the player eventually finds a seemingly helpless blue robotic creature in a heavily damaged central chamber, which they may later discover is Looks to the Moon. However, she is unable to communicate with the player through anything more than incomprehensible chirping, and offers no apparent help. What happens next is up to the player, and how they interact with the several small flying creatures circling Looks to the Moon.
That’s because Rain World is, at its core, about the struggle to survive in a hostile world. More than just being “difficult,” Rain World paints a particular vision of what it means to survive. In Rain World, survival literally happens in cycles, both the repetitive drudgery of eating and sleeping, and in game over followed by continue. It happens in failure after failure after success, in honesty with your own limitations. Survival takes priority over progress. Survival happens in a world that is much bigger and more complex than yourself.
You play as a Slugcat, a nomadic, omnivorous creature who relies on a small herd community, intelligence, and the use of simple thrown tools to thrive in a world filled with predators and periodic torrential rains. As a deadly storm approaches, the Slugcat stumbles during a climb and is separated from their family. Left alone, they must struggle to survive, and eventually thrive, in a dangerous and unforgiving world.

On a 1-2 count, Freese elevated a 98-mph fastball to deep right field, just out of the reach of Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz. The ball bounced off the “Gulf” advertisement on the outfield wall. Pujols and Berkman rushed home to score, and Freese ended up at third base with the game-tying triple, rocking the Busch Stadium crowd.
If there was ever a time for an MVP to be, well… an MVP, this was it. Josh Hamilton stepped to the plate in the 10th, and Elvis Andrus on first base. The man many called “The Natural” swatted a majestic, booming home run off Jason Motte, giving the Rangers a two run lead, and another chance to close the book on a championship.
A Hamilton go-ahead home run in the 10th? Now we are talking a Game for the Ages. No writers block allowed. This one has to be great and turned over in 10 minutes. Berkman ties the game in the 10th? The adrenaline is pumping. Then 11th inning, Freese home run. Game over. Rewrite again for the fourth time. Write it fast, turn it in, go downstairs and ask 25 Rangers what it was like to be one strike away from winning the World Series. Another night as a baseball beat writer.
The Cardinals spent much of the early part of the 2011 season in first place in the NL Central standings but dropped to second place for good on July 27. On September 28, with the Cardinals and Braves tied atop the Wild Card standings on the last day of the regular season, the Cardinals routed the Houston Astros 8–0 in Houston, while the Braves lost at home to the Philadelphia Phillies 4–3 in 13 innings, securing the Cardinals’ second wild card postseason berth in franchise history. St. Louis finished with a record of 90–72, 6 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central but one ahead of the Braves in the Wild Card. Thus, they completed the largest comeback in history with 32 left to play. Due to their fixtures in different divisions, they played fewer head-to-head games, further lowering Cardinals’ odds of catching the Braves.
Of the last 13 instances in which a Major League team won a Game 6 at home to force a Game 7 in the postseason, all but two went on to win Game 7. The exceptions were the New York Mets in the 2006 NLCS against, coincidentally, the Cardinals; and the Boston Red Sox in the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds.
Starters C. J. Wilson and Chris Carpenter faced off again. Wilson walked two batters, Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman, in the second inning and both came in to score, aided in part by an error by David Murphy. However, despite the Rangers walking nine batters in the game (including Albert Pujols three times intentionally), the Cardinals did not score again, leaving 12 runners on base. Mitch Moreland hit a home run in the third, and Adrián Beltré hit one in the sixth, to tie the score at 2–2.
