The Dodgers had sprinted out of the starting gate with a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first as Shohei Ohtani, nursing a shoulder injury from game two, drew a leadoff walk and Freddie Freeman smashed his third home run of this World Series.
How much either bullpen will be relied on in Game 5 will depend on the rematch of the Game 1 starting pitchers: Gerrit Cole and Jack Flaherty. Cole outpitched Flaherty then, but not by much; Flaherty allowed two runs across 5 1/3 innings, while Cole allowed one run in six innings. Round 2 between the two right-handers offers very different stakes than the first edition, in which both starters were hoping to set the tone in the series, only to see Game 1 veer off-course.
The Dodgers remained in striking distance for much of Tuesday’s game, but the Yankees’ pitching staff kept them at arm’s length until New York’s offense exploded for five runs in the eighth inning, putting the kibosh on any potential late drama. The good vibes — and a modicum of confidence — had been restored at the Stadium, and the players could feel it.
Game 6 world series
NBC’s broadcast of Game 7 (which went up against a Monday Night Football game between the Washington Redskins and New York Giants held at nearby Giants Stadium on ABC) garnered a Nielsen rating of 38.9 and a 55 share, making it the highest-rated single World Series game to date.
Of the last 13 instances in which a Major League team won a Game 6 at home to force a Game 7 in the postseason, all but two went on to win Game 7. The exceptions were the New York Mets in the 2006 NLCS against, coincidentally, the Cardinals; and the Boston Red Sox in the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds.
Destiny seemed even more imminent for the Red Sox in the bottom of the eighth in Game 6, when manager John McNamara called upon his closer, Calvin Schiraldi to get a two-inning save with a 3-2 lead. But Lee Mazzilli singled and Lenny Dykstra reached on a bunt attempt. Then, Wally Backman successfully bunted the runners over and Schiraldi intentionally walked slugger Keith Hernandez to load the bases. Catcher Gary Carter strode up to the plate.

Small world board game
• A player can choose to Decline, taking all but 1 race token from regions they own and putting it back into the box, then flipping all the single race tokens belonging to them to the Decline side, as well as flipping the race/power tiles to their decline side. (This usually means the abilities are no longer active.) At the start of their next turn, they pick a new race/power combo like in the first turn by paying to skip any they aren’t interested in. Declined races on regions still count as being owned by that player for scoring purposes. A player can only have one Active and one Decline Race, so the second and subsequent time this option is chosen, the oldest Declined race is fully discarded.
Oliver Kinne aims to publish two new articles every week on his blog, Tabletop Games Blog, and also release both in podcast form. He reviews board games and writes about tabletop games related topics.Oliver is also the co-host of the Tabletop Inquisition podcast, which releases a new episode every three to four weeks and tackles different issues facing board games, the people who play them and maybe their industry.
This simplicity gave me the confidence to call my young daughter to the table. Obviously there is a lot more going on with the interaction of the map and the races, deciding how best to branch out, when to enter decline, and how to evaluate the board state. But she could certainly take her Alchemist Skeletons and run roughshod over the map. Once I explained that she is rewarded with more Skeletons for conquering rather than taking empty territories, she understood enough to start picking on people. She held those Skeletons for 7 rounds and didn’t finish last (among four players), a testimony to the fact that anyone can play Small World with relative success.
Designed by Philippe Keyaerts as a fantasy follow-up to his award-winning Vinci™, Small World is inhabited by a zany cast of characters such as dwarves, wizards, amazons, giants, orcs and even humans; who use their troops to occupy territory and conquer adjacent lands in order to push the other races off the face of the earth.
