To say that there’s big money in video games would perhaps be a bit of an understatement, with the industry generating hundreds of billions of dollars each and every year. A significant proportion of this money comes from microtransactions and mobile games, but traditional video game sales still play an important role in the industry’s runaway success.
The most recently released game to earn a spot in the top ten is Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar’s western epic has sold “nearly” 64 million copies through March 2024, according to publisher Take-Two’s latest financial report. The series has collectively sold over 89 million units, putting the original Red Dead’s sales total around 25 million.
Most importantly, this is just a bit of fun. When it comes to which game is played the most or has made the most money — two other good ways to identify the most popular game — well…we’ll leave that to someone else to work out.

The Philadelphia Phillies, of course, did not ask for this ridicule in the third inning of a 6-5 Game 1 victory of the World Series. Game 3 world series
Maybe this one should be more like a half checkmark, but we can at least give the Yankees some credit for getting a few hits and runs from the bottom of the order and not relying entirely on Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton to lead the offense. Granted, Stanton did have 40 percent of their hits in this game, but Anthony Volpe had his first hit of the series (he struck out in his other three at-bats) and Alex Verdugo hit a two-run home run with two outs in the ninth. I mean, at least the Yankees weren’t shut out. That’s good. Right?
Between Freeman’s ankle, Ohtani’s shoulder, all the starting pitcher injuries, and who knows what else, the Dodgers are far from 100% this postseason. And yet, they are one win away from a World Series. The roster is deep enough that others picked up the slack, and they’re well-coached too. The Dodgers are inevitable, even with Freeman and Ohtani hobbled.
But as the Series shifts to the Bronx for Game 3 on Monday night at Yankee Stadium, with the Dodgers up 2-0 in the best-of-seven, the big stars are faced with big questions — about Ohtani’s availability and Judge’s invisibility.
It was the first time the Yankees got a runner into scoring position and the first chance for the home team to get the crowd back into the game after Freddie Freeman’s two-run homer in the first took any home-field advantage away from New York.
