World series game
If Another World were made today, or one day later, or one day earlier, you maybe would have just had a gun that fired when you pressed the fire button. Maybe you would have gotten another gun, later, which fired really fast, and a third gun, which fired really big bullets 1986 world cup standings. Another World‘s game design, however, was gracefully decided in what we’ve determined was the length of a snap of the creator’s fingers. A gorgeous one-off informed by all that was ever fun in videogames, and all that would ever come to be.
Another World is a song of a videogame. The dumbfounding simplicity of its core mechanics are such that they must have been set in stone from the very moment Chahi began level design. Chahi says, nowadays, that the level design was done completely at random, in a spur-of-the-moment sort of way, and this sticks: only when the game design is so thoroughly complete is the level design allowed to be spur-of-the-moment.
Upon publishing, Delphine did not perform a playtest of the full game, only having previously tested the first portion of the game. Delphine’s U.S. publisher Interplay undertook a full playtest and Chahi fixed a number of bugs that arose from this. Interplay had also requested additional changes in the game, including making the game longer and changing the game’s introduction music. Chahi was adamant about retaining the game’s opening music, and had attempted to change Interplay’s minds by sending them an “infinite fax”, a looped piece of paper, with the message “keep the original intro music” on it. Only when Delphine’s lawyer got involved and told Interplay they legally could not change the music did Interplay relax this requirement.
After 17 months of development, Chahi was only about one-third finished with the game, and realized that this rate would have been impractical. He began to take steps to simplify the development, including reusing background graphics and creating building blocks that allowed him to focus more on the game’s puzzles. At the same time, he began to seek a publisher for the game. He first spoke to his former employer, Delphine Software, but also sought other distributors. One, Virgin, was favourable to Chahi’s game but had suggested that he change it to a point-and-click style adventure game. Chahi had considered changing the game in line with this request but realized “the effort to do this would have been too huge, and some friends who played the game loved it.” Ultimately, he accepted Delphine’s offer in June 1991, and set a tentative release date in November. To meet this deadline, Chahi used storyboards to sketch out the rest of the game’s plot, balancing the overall pacing of the game. One ending captured on these storyboards, but abandoned, was Lester becoming the leader of the alien world. Chahi also argued for his own cover art for the game even with the time crunch for release; he had been disappointed in cover art that was foisted on his games by previous publishers and insisted he be allowed to create it for this game. The game was finished in 1991, which inspired the game’s tagline: “It took six days to create the Earth. Another World took two years”; Chahi noted his own exhaustion at completing this project is mirrored in the near-death of Lester at the end of the game.
Several homebrew ports have been developed during the 2000’s. In 2004, Cyril “Foxy” Corgordan reverse engineered the Atari ST version, which allowed the game to be ported to other consoles, in this case, the Game Boy Advance. Initially Chahi put a halt to the distribution of these files fearing loss in potential business, but would later embrace the port and allow the game to be released as freeware. Due to this, the game was also ported to Dreamcast, GP32 and it would be the groundwork for the Symbian phone port. The GBA and phone ports are all made brighter to make up for the smaller screen and less details.

Dodgers: With the Yankees starting a right-hander in Game 1, Lux is back in the starting lineup for the first time since NLCS Game 3. Freeman missed Game 6 of the NLCS with his badly sprained ankle, but he’s back in the three-hole in Game 1.
But there was Verlander back out there and Marsh doubled, Schwarber walked and J.T. Realmuto tied the game with a two-run double. These Phillies don’t quit, that’s for sure. In our predictions file heading into the series, I warned that Baker was likely to leave a starter in too long at some point — and we just saw it happen. Justin Verlander has a reputation as a big-game pitcher in the postseason — mostly based on two dominant performances against the Yankees in the 2017 ALCS. His World Series history, however, is another matter: He entered this game 0-6 with a 5.68 ERA in seven career starts. That’s the third-worst ERA among pitchers who have started at least five World Series games. Early on, however, he’s cruising: Nine up and nine down through three innings with four strikeouts, including a three-pitch strikeout of Bryce Harper when he got Harper to swing and miss at three straight fastballs at the top of the zone. — Schoenfield
So Baker knows too well the pain of this type of defeat, and the Astros know too well how it feels to let home-field advantage slip away in Game 1 of the World Series. It happened to them in 2019 against the Nationals and in ’21 against the Braves.

After taking advantage of three miscues to erase a five-run, fifth-inning deficit during one of the most memorable midgame meltdowns in baseball history, the Dodgers used eighth-inning sacrifice flies from Gavin Lux and Mookie Betts to beat New York 7-6 on Wednesday night.
In other words, there are no changes from Game 1, or from the ALCS Game 5 clincher. There some calls to shake things up given how easily the Dodgers’ bullpen lefties carved up bottom of the five of the lineup since it’s left/left/right/left/left. This is what the Yankees tried to avoid for the first eight games of the playoffs, when they had a lefty at cleanup (Chisholm or Wells) and then Stanton fifth.
